Who We Are – Neighborly Needs
Neighborly Needs is an Inner faith organization of Women of Color united for change, within the communities in which we live, work and practice our faith. Our goals are to incite a change in the way we think, the way we live and become empowered to support those that came before us, ourselves and those that come after us.
Because “Riches are defined by Self-Contentment”.
The Problem
African American Women & Women of Color suffer the highest rates of Domestic & Family Violence, reported and unreported; the highest rates of Murder by intimate partners; the highest rates of HIV/AIDS among other very critical social ills. The need to increase effective outreach for women of color in addition to providing treatment based on our individual needs as a community has a direct effect on our outcomes. Domestic Dysfunction within communities of color is a very complex issue in itself however the underlying cause to most of the socioeconomic problems within communities of color that we see daily are based on dysfunctional behaviors that tend to be valued and accepted as common or “the norm” within our communities. Without the proper identification of Domestic Dysfunction and the acceptance of the need to change the way we as women of color think, live and empower ourselves; the cycle will inevitably continue.
